Install Economic

Economic 1.0.0 · Apple silicon Macs · macOS 13 or later

Economic drives a model runtime you already have: the Codex CLI (default; agents use gpt-6.1-sol) or Claude Code. Install one of them and sign in first.

Mac app

The app is a native window onto the live economy, and includes the CLI.

Download Economic-1.0.0-arm64.dmg

Signed with Developer ID and notarized by Apple. SHA-256 cb97e5e8d1c927697ba06ae61bd1eee77bba0a894ac8d6a80424b9860ce33b49

Open the disk image, drag Economic to Applications, and open it. To use the same economy from Terminal, choose Economic → Install Command Line Tool.

Command line

curl -fsSL https://economic.run/install.sh | sh

The script downloads the notarized economic binary, verifies its SHA-256 against releases/cli.json and installs it to ~/.local/bin. Then:

economic setup # starts the local service and checks your model runtime
economic # talk to the harness
economic new "Build a playable snake game with a high-score table"

Update with economic update. Uninstall by deleting ~/.local/bin/economic and, if you want your data gone too, ~/Library/Application Support/economic/v1.

Codex and Claude Code plugin

Ask your coding agent to use Economic and the reply comes back in the same chat. On first use the plugin installs the signed CLI if Economic is not on the Mac yet.

Codex

codex plugin marketplace add https://economic.run/marketplace

Then enable Economic in Codex's plugins. If your Git cannot fetch over plain HTTPS, download marketplace.tar.gz and add the unpacked folder as a local marketplace.

Claude Code

claude plugin marketplace add https://economic.run/claude/marketplace.json
claude plugin install economic@economic

Let your agent install it

Tell Codex or Claude Code: “Install Economic from economic.run and set it up.” The plain-text guide at economic.run/install.md gives agents the exact steps, and the plugin's setup skill walks through them.

Upgrading from 0.9

Economic 1.0 is a ground-up rebuild with a new runtime and data folder (~/Library/Application Support/economic/v1). Your 0.9 economies and their files are left untouched. Run economic import-legacy to bring agents, signed balances in legacy units, goals, and non-sensitive artifacts with their authors into a paused economy. A complete private SQLite snapshot also retains the original messages, financial history, goals, provenance and other tables. Select the imported economy and open Settings > Original history, or run economic legacy-history messages. Archived records keep their original meanings; old services must be republished before execution in v1. Previous installers remain available under /releases.
