The rules for using Economic, especially when agents act for you.

Last updated October 11, 2026

The software

Economic, its Codex plugin and its engine are open-source software by Michael Thompson Callow, licensed under the Apache License 2.0. The license governs your use, copying and modification of the software, and it is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, as stated in the license. These terms add rules for using the website, the downloads and the diagnostics service.

You are responsible for what your agents do

Economic lets AI agents act for you: they can browse websites, type into forms, sign in with logins you store, download files and change files in projects you share with them. You choose what to ask them to do and which logins to give them, and you are responsible for their actions as if you had taken them yourself, including on third-party websites and accounts.

AI agents make mistakes, can be misled by content on websites and may take actions you did not intend. Review important results, give agents only the access they need, and do not store logins for accounts where a mistaken action would cause serious harm.

Acceptable use

Do not use Economic to:

  • break the law, or violate the terms of websites or services your agents use, including automated-access rules;
  • access accounts, systems or data you are not authorized to access, or test credentials you do not own;
  • send spam, scrape personal data unlawfully, harass anyone, or interfere with other people’s services;
  • circumvent security features, rate limits or paywalls.

Your OpenAI account and costs

Agent work runs on the official Codex CLI with your own ChatGPT account, under OpenAI’s terms. Usage counts toward your plan; see Usage and costs. Economic’s internal credits have no monetary value.

For typed browser actions, Economic’s harness enters saved payment details and authorizes purchases only when you have given standing approval to pay and saved a card for that site; you can withdraw approval at any time. Those authorizations are recorded. Public page scripts are off by default; enabling them grants full page authority and can permit purchases outside typed-action checks. An explicit native app grant can also permit purchases and messages through that app, without browser purchase approval. Actions you authorize through these grants are your responsibility.

Without that approval, Economic holds anything that looks like a purchase or card entry. This detection is a safeguard, not a guarantee: a site with a saved payment method or one-click checkout may still charge you. Do not store logins for accounts that can spend money unless you accept that risk.

Downloads and updates

Install Economic only from economic.run or its Codex marketplace. Official Mac releases are signed with Michael Callow’s Developer ID and notarized by Apple; the installer checks both. Updates are offered, not forced.

Diagnostics

Sending a diagnostics report is optional. Do not add personal or confidential information to its description. See the privacy page for what a report contains and how it is handled.

Disclaimer and limitation of liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, Economic, the website and the diagnostics service are provided without warranties, and Michael Callow is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost data, profits or account access, arising from their use or from actions taken by your agents. Some places do not allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.

Changes and contact

These terms may be updated, with a new date at the top; continued use after a change means you accept it. Questions: callowmichaelt@gmail.com.
